It is our Federal Lawmakers who have intensified the
"War on Cannabis Consumers."Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko, his budget under pressure, has laid off staff, cut patrols and has released jail inmates. But there's one Operation on which he's increased spending in recent years; marijuana raids.
It's all about money; if he steps up his harassment of marijuana growers, his Drug Warriors are eligible for roughly half a million dollars a year in federal Drug War funding, which helps save some LEO's (law enforcement officers) jobs. Most of the federal monies would have to be used to raid and arrest cannabis consumers or growers. Marijuana may not be the biggest crime problem, but "it's where the money is" the sheriff said.
The U.S. Justice Department is spent nearly $3.6 billion last year to increase budgets of state and local Drug Warriors. In addition, the federal government last year set aside close to $4 billion of the economic stimulus package for law-enforcement grants for state and local agencies. The Obama administration also is spending another $239 million last year to fund more local Drug Warriors.
If you follow the money, you'll see federal monies are the primary motivation for arresting cannabis consumers and growers. It has nothing to do with justice, it all has to do with job security for LEO"s.
Lets not forget the vast amount of money that LEO's receive from taking peoples property. They take cars, houses and anything in those houses as their reward. That's what they don't want to lose. It has nothing to do with increased crime, it's their cash cow. Some police are looking the other way, instead of arresting kids, that are just having fun. The minorities are still a major target, until we can get MJ decriminalized, minorities will take the brunt of the Drug Warriors enforcement.
The prohibition laws are responsible for the reoccurring deaths of humans for nothing more harmful than possessing small amounts of contraband. One can not help but wonder why our lawmakers keep funding the deaths of non violent cannabis consumers and growers. Now if that is not bad enough sloppy police work has been the cause of dozens of Drug Raids where Drug Warriors with automatic weapons drawn are battering down doors of homes that were the wrong address, In several of such cases pets were shot and humans have been wounded or killed by our mistaken Drug Warriors!
MrDanger at reddit made this enlightening comment:
Nearly every governmental agency and department from the biggest, the DoD, down to the municipalities get some or all of their budget for fighting drugs. There are only 20.1 million illicit drug users in the US, 15.2 million of which are cannabis users. If you remove cannabis from the list of illicit drugs you've only got a remaining 3.9 million drug users in the US, or about 1.2 percent of the population of 311.9 million Americans. That's just not enough reason to justify all that money, so the men and women whose budgets would be cut fight to keep it illegal. This is about people in power trying to hang onto it, and the system is rigged.
