Granny Storm Crow's list is the most comprehensive list of ailments that are cured with the use of cannabis. This year she has added some very important information on why cannabis is such an important part of our lives...
It can prevent cancer!
as well as cure it!

Granny Storm Crow's MMJ Reference List- July 2011

This year’s message to all of you is a little different. I am going to be explaining a major scientific discovery- the Omega-3 / CB1 connection, and how it affects your healing with cannabis! But to understand fully this discovery, we need to revisit Biology 101.

Every cell in your body has tiny chemical receptors all over the cell’s “skin” or cell membrane. These receptors work kind of like an ignition switch- you put the right type of chemical “key” into a receptor and it “turns on” some kind of action. The type 1 cannabinoid receptors (CB1s) are the ones we are interested in looking at. They are found both in the body and the brain.

“Turning on” a CB1 receptor with either an endocannabinoid that your body makes, or a phytocannabinoid like THC, can result in many different things occurring. A cancer cell may be “told” to die through a process called apoptosis, it may activate a basic instinct such as nursing, soothe an irritated digestive tract, or simply ease your pain. The CB1 receptors in your brain are the ones to blame, or praise, for the cannabis “high”.

Every time a cell divides, whether it is a brain cell, or a body cell, it needs to make new “skin” to grow back to its full size, and that involves making a whole bunch of new receptors.

And this is where the cutting-edge science starts-- to make functional CB1 receptors, you absolutely need Omega-3! In “Nutritional omega-3 deficiency abolishes endocannabinoid-mediated neuronal functions”, the Omega-6-rich “western diet” is implicated in our declining mental and physical health. The “ideal” proportion of Omega-6 to Omega-3 is around 3 to 4 parts Omega-6 to every 1 part Omega-3. Our “western diet” can deliver up to a 50 to 1 ratio!

LINK

Time to reschedule and legalize cannabis!

It looks like California Governor Jerry Brown might put a stop to the wasteful spending of millions of dollars of state money on the flying circus known as CAMP.

But this may be CAMP’s last summer. The state budget signed by Gov. Jerry Brown last month eliminates its financing as part of the widespread cuts to programs in law enforcement, courts and social services.
“At this point I don’t think we know what would happen to CAMP next year,” said Lynda Gledhill, a spokeswoman for Attorney General Kamala Harris.
The federal Drug Enforcement Administration has vowed to keep financing its part of the program, but since CAMP is operated by the state, the state’s money appears crucial for it to continue. CAMP’s 2010 operations cost taxpayers more than $3 million. The state contributed $1 million, and the D.E.A. contributed $1.6 million. The state budget for 2012 cuts $71 million from the Division of Law Enforcement, including the narcotics bureau.
In the program’s early years, CAMP agents were known to buzz backyards in their helicopters and all but lay siege to some North Coast communities. Over the years, though, the focus has shifted to state, county and federal parks, which Mexican drug cartels and other large-scale growers have found to be excellent locations for illicit farms, the authorities say.

LINK

The sad fact is that while CAMP portrayed them selves as making our forests safe. While in truth they are a part of prohibition of marijuana that has caused a steady increase in marijuanas value, until it has become so expensive that crops are guarded by armed guards.

It is time to re-legalize marijuana and allow the people to use and grow it, rather than clinging to the failed status quo of a war against to keep profits flowing for private prisions and the giant pharmaceutical companies.

I think we have all have heard the old sayings, just the facts or just give me the numbers, well today we look at both in Montana's battle over medical marijuana.

Considering the many medical uses of marijuana, that there are thirty thousand medical marijuana patients in Montana which has a population of near of nearly one million is not an excessive number. The fact the majority, over 276,000 voters passed I-148 the medial marijuana law shows us there was an considerable interest in medical marijuana. That also means that 89% of those that voted for I-148 are not using medical marijuana or under 11% of the voters who approved I-148 are medical marijuana patients.
The 2010 census put Montana's population at 989,415 and of of those 3.03% are medical marijuana patients. Montana's population has seen an increase of 87,220 people, or 9.7 percent, since the year 2000 a few of which it would be fair to assume actually moved there to be able to use medical marijuana.
Election statistics from:
Montana Secretary of State’s Office

Now we will crunch a few more numbers into this:

A report for the President's Cancer Panel, a three-person panel that reports to the U.S. president on the National Cancer Program, said approximately 41 percent of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime and about 21 percent will die from cancer
Source

Now if you consider those with cancer, chronic pain, other diseases that medical marijuana can help and the patients that want off addicting pain killers, I think the 3.03% figure is way to few medical marijuana patients for Montana.

On an interesting side note it seems a Montana Judge is seeing some problems with the new more restrictive law that was to have gone into effect on July 1:

Judge blocks parts of Mont. medical marijuana law

HELENA, Mont. -- A judge on Thursday blocked Montana from prohibiting commercial medical marijuana operations, saying that ban on profits from pot sales will restrict access to patients and deny people the right to seek health care.
source

I was very fortunate to have able listen in on the live Tele-Press Conference on the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition on June 23rd.

I listened and heard some very important points and I am sure you will see articles everywhere on the statements, questions and of course the answers. But I heard a question that was not asked directly, but was mentioned many times indirectly. Maybe it was just I wanted to ask about it that made bells and whistles go off in my head with its mentioning.

I am talking about the “drug czar” and the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), many times the drug czars office was talked of in statements and in the forming of questions.

What I so badly wanted to ask is "should not the congressional mandate that impels the drug czar (ONDCP) to oppose legalization of marijuana be removed and should we not ask that the (ONDCP) should fund research into the safe use of of recreational marijuana."

I am grateful that our representatives submitted HR 2306 last Tuesday, but I'm afraid it was putting the cart before the horse. It is a rough road to travel when a professional propaganda machine like the (ONDCP) is opposing every move that is being made for legalization.

According to Title VII Office of National Drug Control Policy Reauthorization Act of 1998: H11225:

Responsibilities. –The Director– [...]
(12) shall ensure that no Federal funds appropriated to the Office of National Drug Control Policy shall be expended for any study or contract relating to the legalization (for a medical use or any other use) of a substance listed in schedule I of section 202 of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 812) and take such actions as necessary to oppose any attempt to legalize the use of a substance (in any form) that–

is listed in schedule I of section 202 of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 812); and

has not been approved for use for medical purposes by the Food and Drug Administration;

LINK - The Drug Czar is Required by Law to Lie

The most interesting point was when Cohen was asked if he thought legalization would cause an increase in marijuana growing:

His answer: *In Tennessee marijuana is already the number one agricultural crop how much more could you grow.

There is a new initiative getting a lot of attention in Washington state, one that is better than todays cannabis laws though still lacking and leaving many facets of marijuana illegal. I find it strange that there is an absurd 1oz possession limit on cannabis which no one has ever over dosed on, yet Washington state has no possession limit on alcohol from which many people have died from over indulging.

The New Approach Washington initiative:

Under the initiative, distribution to adults age 21 and up would be through state-licensed marijuana-only stores; production and distribution would be licensed and regulated by the state Liquor Control Board; and strict rules would be adopted for advertising, store location and license eligibility.

The law would limit personal possession to one ounce of dried bud. It would still be a crime to grow or deliver even a small amount of marijuana, except by licensed producers or stores.
LINK

The new approach seems to leave an awful lot of ways for law enforcement to arrest members of the cannabis community. Growing, delivery and even possession (over 1oz) are still crimes and as such will be costing taxpayers money. This initiative is not the answer for the cannabis community, nor is it really what the voters want or need. It is a diabolical plan to allow law enforcement to keep the on going drug seizures from growers and small time weed dealers.

The sensible Washington initiative I-1149 will allow growing and personal sales which makes a lot more sense than the states being the monopoly of cannabis sales. Lets face it the Washington state government is not ready to supply the entire cannabis community, which in reality already serves its self. It just makes good sense to make the right change the first time rather than continuing the war on the cannabis community!

The initiative is simple: it removes all criminal penalties for possession, use, manufacture or delivery of cannabis among adults and directs the Legislature to create taxation and regulatory system as appropriate.
LINK

I find it sadly amusing that the United States has spent over a trillion dollars fighting The War On Drugs. Our Government spends untold billions each year flying around looking for and eradicating cannabis gardens. They hunt for cannabis from backyards with a few plants in five gallon buckets to the gorilla gardens hidden in our forests.

Yet in Afghanistan opium poppies thrive in fields that go on as far as the eye can see,
why?

There has been lots written about Nixon and especially Watergate, but the far worse crime he committed was the demonization of cannabis. While the Shafer commissions report plainly stated marijuana should not be considered an important problem. Nixon went against the reports findings and began a global war against the cannabis community.

History will certainly show Richard Nixon aka Tricky Dick was a criminal and that Governor Shafer was the hero. Shafer stood by his report on drugs even when Nixon pressured him to redo the report to so that it would show marijuana to be a dangerous drug. If the US Government had followed the advice the Shafer commissions report Nixon's drug laws the world would not be living through todays destructive drug wars!

Forty years ago today a corrupt president began a war on the peaceful fun loving cannabis community. Since that day over a trillion dollars has been wasted and many lives lost.

It is time to end "The War On Drugs" call the White House today and tell them it's time for a change - 202-456-1111
The no knock law was created to stop criminals from being able to destroy drugs before the police could enter the premises or for instances where the suspect is known to be dangerous. I say it does not legally apply to marijuana raids!

Here is my reasoning as simple as it might be...
In the fraction of seconds it takes to knock and identify your self there is little chance that any significant amount of marijuana could be destroyed. Then lets look at a grow house, why bust doors and come rushing in with weapons drawn ready to kill?

In a recent event in the conservative state of Arizona a drug raid with guns pointed at a woman and her baby ended with her husband dead for attempting to defend her against unidentified armed invaders that were busting into his home. No marijuana was found in the home.

Marine Survives Two Tours in Iraq, SWAT Kills Him

Lets think about cannabis in dollar value a pound of good bud is worth $2,500 no way you can flush a pound down the drain. Lets think smaller a quarter pound might be flushed, but it would leave plenty of evidence, dry green pot would be hard to get rid of in the toilet. Where am I going with this, simple any one with less than a quarter pound of weed can hardly be considered a drug dealer. Such petty amounts of cannabis should not be cause for law enforcement to enter a home with intent to use deadly force (if necessary) and if there is more cannabis than that they need not worry about their evidence being destroyed.<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

Now your hard drugs are very different than marijuana and you could flush a sizable amount such as a small time dealer might have, but large amounts are not very likely to be destroyed in seconds.

Here is another interesting article on the no knock law:

Knocking and identifying the presence of law enforcement officers could be saving lives and property.

But then that might make sense and we all know this is a nonsensical War on Drugs.

Recently there has been a lot of anti-cannabis disinformation on how it is a cause of paranoia and rebuttal that it does not. I find it very touching that the anti-cannabis crowd is so worried about the possible mental health problems that cannabis may cause.

Did you know that in India over a century ago in 1984 a report was commissioned on cannabis, in an effort to get a determination cannabis was the cause of psychological disorders. 5a. The Indian Hemp Drugs Commission

Since then many reports have been commissioned to look into the dangers of cannabis, to which came the same reply that govrnments should not bother waging war on cannabis consumers. Now the strange thing is the anti-cannabis minded were repeatedly able and more than willing to ignore these reports and ended up making laws prohibiting cannabis anyway.

I think the most pertinent example today would be the infamous Shafer commissions report of 1970 that stated they found no fault with the use of marijuana. Richard Nixon tried to have the report redone to strengthen his new anti-cannabis war on drugs, Shafer refused! 5e. The Shafer Commission

Since the days of Richard Nixon the cannabis community has been tortured and persecuted through the legal system. Today many suffer the mental anguish that the war on drugs has wrought on the community. From encouraging distrust in others by the use of snitches, to living in fear of legal persecution. The last 40yrs of The War On Drugs has not only been mentally destructive to the cannabis community, but also to their friends and family. It is so nice the prohibitionists are worried about the mental health of cannabis consumers, to bad they're driving them to insanity with their tyrannical and inhumane prohibition laws!

We are now seeing the population of the United State is becoming frustrated with our governments drug policies, as was witnessed during President Obama's Internet survey asking US citizens what they would like to see changed, they replied.

Sometimes it amazes me the crazy tales those against legalizing drugs will write to support their position. I came across an article that was so full of BS that I felt I should share it with my readers.

War on Drugs a success

FTA: I know because from 1976 to 1981, I was administrator of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. In 1976, we had more than 500,000 heroin addicts and over 2,000 heroin overdose deaths. This has decreased significantly; currently there are 200,000 heroin users, less than half the number of 35 years ago and half the heroin overdose deaths.

But a little research shows interestingly enough most people would not use hard drugs if they were legal, that shows educating people does work!

If hard drugs such as heroin or cocaine were legalized would you be likely to use them?
99% SAY "NO"

Zogby International asked that question of 1,028 likely voters. Ninety-nine out of 100 said "No." Only 0.6 percent said "Yes
source

Now we see Mr Bensinger turn his spin machine to the anti-marijuana mode with no shame for ruining his credibility with old out of date propaganda.

Legalize marijuana, which contain 468 different chemicals and 60 percent more cancer-causing agents than a cigarette

Well a quick Google search for marijuana and lung cancer turns up this well known fact:

Study Finds No Cancer-Marijuana Connection

But it goes beyond not causing cancer!

Marijuana Cuts Lung Cancer Tumor Growth In Half, Study Shows

Now as for:

Drugged driver fatalities are three times higher in states with medical marijuana.
Link to Mr Bensingers article War on drugs a success

I will quote from the US Governments own report and you decide if his claim to three times the fatalities in MMJ states rings true.

U.S. Department of Transportation,National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(DOT HS 808 078), Final Report, November 1993

Drivers under the influence of marijuana retain insight in their performance and will compensate, where they can, for example, by slowing down or increasing effort. As a consequence, THC's adverse effects on driving performance appear relatively small.

source
I will add this to the marijuana and safety question:

Oregon's workplaces safest ever, despite 40,000 medical marijuana patients

Source

I think that you can see a pattern dealing with truth or the lack of it in Mr Bensinger's article. It amazes me that anyone would write such nonsense in the days of the internet, when fact checking is as easy as a few well thought out Google searches. Mr Bensinger you will have to do better at fact checking in the future as your credibility and reputation are on the line.

*Please note Mr Bensinger does not cite any sources for the statistics he claims in his article, I wonder why?

There is much fear mongering since the UN received the Global Report for the legalization of drugs. Lets be reasonable and practical, we know cannabis will not be sold next to the candy bars nor will it be sold in toy shops. We already know when cannabis is sold it will be taxed, controlled and carefully regulated. It will become the states decision on how exactly the public will access cannabis purchases and looking at their history with cannabis it will certainly not be a drug crazed chaotic free for all.

Our Drug Czar made reference that drugs are not a victim less crime because it can bring drug babies. I must agree that this is true, but with the whole of drug sales on the black market there is absolutely no controls in place to reduce nor stop this situation. With legal drugs regulations and controls can be implemented as well as open access to treatment programs where the user need not fear legal implications for their drug use. Legalized drugs would help alleviate the birth of drug addicted babies through regulation and treatments.

Lets consider the present situation, drug warriors busting down doors guns ablaze. Drugs that are for sale to anyone that has the money, even narcs can make a buy! Prohibition and the black market it creates is a drug fueled orgy of chaos, legalization would add controls, regulations and some taxes!

The war on cannabis was Nixon's Big Trick to keep wars on going and tromp the open minded pot smoking war protesters, it had nothing to do with public safety nor morals. Cannabis prohibition is destructive by the nature of the greed and power of the black market that it perpetuates.
<i style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Sensible Washington needs your support!

Every once in awhile one has to really take in the whole perspective of why cannabis prohibition needs to end. It is not about potheads being able to smoke it up. It is not about medical marijuana patients having unrestricted access to their healing herb. Neither is it about swat raids that kill peaceful people and their pets inside their homes. It is not about the thousands of deaths it has caused our neighbors south of the US borders and it's not about personal freedoms.
It is about all of these things and more, it is about humanity and fighting oppression and simply using common sense to correct the wrongs that cannabis prohibition have wrought upon us!

This from Sensible Washington's blog:

This week, we’re putting out an urgent call to all organizations and individuals who believe in this cause; that cannabis should be a legal substance. It’s both a medicine and a safe recreational choice that, despite years of propaganda, has no lethal dose. For those who understand the necessity of legalization, we call upon you to donate whatever you can to get Initiative 1149 – which ends criminal and civil penalties for adults – on the November ballot. We have a strong, dedicated and extremely proud group of volunteers that have put us in a position to win, but with your help we can augment our gatherers with paid professionals, assuring cannabis legalization in Washington has a better chance of becoming reality. Initiative 1149 offers up an opportunity unlike any other we’ve seen in recent years, a chance for true reform, and this is our chance to make a difference. However we need the help of everyone. The importance of achieving legalization in even one state and what that means for future attempts cannot be overstated.

With this call, we are holding a Sensible Washington Money Bomb starting on Wednesday June 8th and running through Wednesday, June 15th, with the help and sponsorship of National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), Seattle Hempfest, Tacoma Hempfest, and the Cannabis Freedom March. We can’t afford to wait another year and let this issue remain dormant as the federal government continues to wage war on non-violent citizens. We must take action. We strongly appreciate anything and everything you can do to help, and you can donate to us directly on our website.

So there you have it spending trillions to save billions...

Don't forget....

By law, the drug czar must oppose any attempt to legalize the use (in any form). Despite the science, medical studies and evidence of medical cannabis safety and effectiveness, despite the fact that the federal government supplies it to patients, despite the fact the Department of Health and Human Services holds patents on cannabinoids for the therapeutic benefits, US Patent 663057 titled "Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectant s" which is assigned to The United States of America, as represented by the Department of Health and Human Services) the drug czar is required by law to lie about it.

Richard M Nixon was impeached from the office of president of the United states for his abuse of the political system in the Watergate scandal. Nixon was a white collar criminal who would not accept defeat and did not mind breaking laws nor ignoring morals to get his way.

Truly Watergate was just the violation of his political opponents and not comparable to Cannabisgate aka the war on drugs. The real reason for war on drugs was Nixon's attempt to keep our world in turmoil and perpetuate the Vietnam war and insure there would be future wars. Imagine the lives that would have been saved if the sixties war protesters had not been defeated by Tricky Dick and his dirty tricks.

There are those in power that do not want wars to end and have no compassion for their fellow humans. There are many leaders that see no wrong in following laws put in place by a criminal politician whose goal was to perpetuate wars amongst the citizens of our wonderful planet.

I had always known that it was crazy to put people in jail for marijuana. Now I know there were truly evil ulterior motives to the war on cannabis community which are the strengthening of a worldwide police state as well as the continuation and promotion of international warfare.

It is truly sad that Nixon's lesser crime cost him the White House. While his greatest crime Cannabisgate is one that the worlds suffers from today and one we will continue to suffer into the future.

Now just to show that Nixon truly acted with malice I ask you to look into the Shafer Commissions report:

Marijuana was classified as a Schedule I substance... TEMPORARILY pending the findings from the Federal Governments own commission. The commission concluded the federal government was over prosecuting marijuana users, and that is was releasing misinformation specifically designed to scare and confuse the public. Regarding this issue. Mr. Shafer's report was so comprehensive, covering many facets of the issue, and his findings were so poignant, the federal government could not refute ANY of the findings from The Shafer Commission. Using the powers of remedial intellect, and reviewing the factual statements above, one has to question the validity and the legality of the governments policy, which is the continuing prosecution and imprisonment of marijuana offenders, despite the conclusive findings from the Shafer Commission. How can the government choose to not only ignore its own findings, but also continue to perpetuate fear and misinformation? How can they ignore the conclusion of the commission to not prosecute and decriminalize
- AND DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE?

While the Obama administration has been raiding, pillaging and plundering medical marijuana clinics across the US, Holder says lighter sentences for crack addicts!

In testimony before the US Sentencing Commission Wednesday, Attorney General Eric Holder gave his support to a proposal that could result in the early release of thousands of federal crack cocaine prisoners. The proposal would make retroactive last year's Fair Sentencing Act, which sharply reduced the disparities in sentencing between powder and crack cocaine offenses.
LINK

Now here is the real reason cocaine is a schedule 2 narcotic and the much safer marijuana is a schedule 1 narcotic, thanks go to Nixon.

Nixon proposed to divide the U.S. into two philosophically camps; one a dangerous pot smoking, draft dodging gaggle of young anarchists, lead by a noisy cadre of effete intellectuals, the other he would eventually term “The Silent Majority,” the largely war-backing, middle-class.

This necessitated that Nixon wage war on marijuana. By vilifying a drug that he could associate with the anti-war movement he could leverage national opinion against the protesters. Directives issued to law enforcement to pummel marijuana also included a softening of directives aimed at a drug that would become synonymous with the 70’s and beyond – cocaine. The think tanks advised Nixon on the cocaine for pot swap: marijuana made you think abstractly, cocaine physically. Heavy cocaine use leads to delusions of grandeur and identification with the ruling class — traits incompatible with rebellion and anarchy.

LINK

So there you have it, Obama is still following the anti-marijuana pro-war strategies of the Nixon administration. Old Generals still own the White House and have control of the man seated as president, the want of war profits is dominate over the peoples desire for peace.

The CIA helped revive it, beginning by striking a deal with the Corsican Mafia to secure their assistance in driving communist union organisers off of the docks of Marseilles, laying the foundations for the "French Connection".
There followed a long, far-reaching pattern of cooperation between US covert operations and high-level drug-dealing organisations, who helped make the shadier covert operations self-financing, insulating them from unwanted oversight. Thus, Southeast Asia became a major global drug-supplier as an off-shoot of the Vietnam War, especially its more covert aspects. Similarly, the CIA-supported Afghanistan conflict not only helped create al-Qaeda, it rocketed the local poppy crop to the top of the global charts.
